As Christmas is quickly approaching, we must continuously keep Christ at the center of this Holiday. It’s easy to get caught up with all of the Christmas decorations, baked goods, holiday movies, and all the extra things this Holiday season brings. However, it’s important for us to remember during this time of year why we celebrate CHRIST-mas. This article will cover a few ways in which you can keep Christ at Christmas.
Many may say that Jesus was not born on Christmas, BUT as long as God gets the glory through this season that’s all that matters. Yes, God should get his glory and worship from us every day but this season we should celebrate with Joy. Celebrate the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ.
#1 Staying rooted in the Word of God
One way you can make sure you are celebrating a Christ-centered Christmas going to the word of God. Celebrate by studying the word of God pertaining to the birth and coming of Jesus Christ. A fun way to do this is to write those scriptures on an index card and meditate on the scriptures each day leading up to Christmas. Here are some scripture below.
Matthew 1:21
And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
Isaiah 9:6
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder and his name shall be called Wonderful.
Luke 2:13
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men.
# 2 Creating a Gratitude Jar
The next suggestion on keeping a Christ in Christmas is making note of the things you are grateful for. Sometimes it may seem easy to get caught up in the things that we don’t have around this time of year. Especially when it comes to gifts. Sometimes we may tend to ask God for things instead of thanking him for the things that we do have. Each day writes something that you are thankful for on a small piece of paper and fold it up and place it in the jar. On Christmas day empty the jar and go through all of your gratitude notes. You can do this alone or open them up with your family. Be grateful and thankful for all of the things that Christ has done in your life.

# 3 Show the character of Christ
Next, be more cognizant in showing the character of Christ through our actions. Although this is something that we should practice daily on our walk with Christ use this as a gentle reminder. If you haven’t been practicing this let’s start now Holiday season should be the joyous time of year but it’s not always seen this way for others. Some may be grieving this time of year as well. How do we show the character of Christ? We show it with Love, Agape love. Also, bearing fruit, the fruit of the spirit.
Here are some examples of ways you can show the fruit of the spirit:
- Show people grace
- Practice James 1:19
- Go through your items and donate them to your local homeless shelter.
- Make kits to give to the homeless.
- Pay it forward→ Pay for the car behind you in a drive-through line.
